TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Due to the junta council’s military column deploying military actions in Tanintharyi Township, the local civilians from at least eight villages are said to be fleeing for their lives.
About 70 soldiers from the light infantry battalion 558 of the junta council has been deploying military actions into Nyaungpinkwin Village, Pyotei Village, Kywehteinkone Village, Burma Inndaw Village, Myaymaohn Village, Kammaline Village, Shan Inndaw Village, and Yaybyu Village since January 3, as said by the local people.
“We villagers are coming in and out of the village. Formerly, the junta soldiers abducted the men to use as human shields and cursed and beat the women and elderly. So, when we hear that the junta soldiers are deploying military actions in the region, no one dares to stay in the village and all flee for safety,” as said by a villager from Kammaline Village.
Currently, the people from the villages displaced by the junta’s military actions are staying in the gardens and farms. There is no one who came to the internally displaced camps so the numbers of displaced people are difficult to know, as said by a person helping the displaced people from Tanintharyi.
He said, “We are still observing the situation and are prepared to help them when they need.”
The junta column deploying military actions in the region has been stationing in a school in Shan Inndaw Village, as said by the local people.
During the military operations, junta artillery unit 306 is known to be firing heavy artillery to the nearby villages.
In Tanintharyi Township, due to the junta’s military actions and the battles, there have been five villages which were internally displaced as of last December. Among those villages, Yaybyu Village where the junta soldiers are currently deploying military actions is also included.
