SAGAING DIVISION – Residents said that more than ten people have been arrested by the collaborative forces of junta troops and their informers in Kawlin Town, starting last Monday (July 17).
More than 100 military troops reportedly detained locals, in their twenties to thirties, at Kyaw Zeya Ward, Satyone Lalpyin Ward, and Saymin Gon Village near the city. The arrests of the locals were made until 2 p.m. on July 18.
“There are also cases of junta troops coming to arrest the man, but they arrested his woman when he was not present, as well as similar cases where the man was detained instead of his woman, who was wanted by junta council,” stated a local man of Kawlin Town.
He also reported that military soldiers set up checkpoints in the morning and entered the victims’ houses with their informants and made the arrests. It has been more than three months since there were such arrests in Kawlin Town.
“Tomorrow is Martyr’s Day. Maybe the junta troops are putting up the detainees as human shields as they are concerned about possible attacks,” the local expressed his thoughts.
It is reported that the detained locals were kept at the Kawlin police station and the office of the Military Affairs Security Force.
Last May 28 and June 4, in Kawlin Township, sixteen locals of Khantha District were arrested by the military council. Seven of them were reportedly killed, and their bodies were found one mile away from Mokwa Village on June 8.
