MYANMAR- It is reported that 278 soldiers of the Military Council arrived in Mizoram on January 17 in the evening, according to local Indian media.
It is stated that the 278 members of the Military Council fled to Bandukbanga village, Lawngtlai District, Mizoram State, due to clashes on the Myanmar-India border. The run-away soldiers reportedly handed over the weapons to the India Border Guard Force (Assam Rifle Troops) and sought refuge, as stated in a local news media.
On January 14, the Arakan Army (AA) announced that the remaining junta soldiers at “Khankha Mount Strategy camp” in the Palatwa region fled to the Indian side during the battle on January 13.
Chief of Defense of the Indian Army General Pande also said that in the past two months, 416 military council soldiers from Myanmar crossed the border and entered India. Hence, about 700 soldiers have fled to India so far.
The Indian government is also having a hard time due to the continuous fleeing of members of the military council to India and is even thinking of closing the border between the two countries.
The Indian Government has returned the runaway soldiers back to the Myanmar military. These soldiers are reportedly sent back to the frontline and some are said to be deserting the post and running away again.
