SAGAING DIVISION – It is reported that more than 3,000 locals from the Letpadaung area have been forced to flee due to the advancing military council troops from Nyaung Pyingyi village.
Starting on July 21, the junta column raided Leppantaung village and burnt down two houses. In addition, they fired heavy weapons toward the surrounding villages such as Shwe Hlay, Walgyi, and Walkwel villages.
“This junta column has the largest manpower, at least over a hundred forces. Previous junta column usually have about thirty to forty forces. Currently, more than three thousand residents are forced to flee,” said a displaced local woman.
According to those who fled the war, the junta column that entered the Letpadaung area is now stationed at Walkwel village.
Junta troops are frequently raiding the villages in the Letpadaung area, and have set up a base camp at the Nyaung Pingyi village police station. Residents reported that the junta troops from that camp are raiding and launching offensives toward villages in Salingyi and Yinmabin Townships in Sagaing.
