SAGAING DIVISION – The Darmasign Battalion 28 of Yinmavin District issued a statement to the residents of Salingyi Township and Letpatan Mountain, to join Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) by not entering into the work at the re-operating the copper project of the junta-owned Myanmar Economics Holding Limited Company and China Wang Pao Company, last Tuesday (July 11).
“The copper production project, that only benefits the junta, is running now despite repeated objections from residents. Some people start to work in that factory since the brokers lured them to work. Our force repeatedly requested and warned those working as a pillar to the military council. If the warnings are not taken seriously, some effective actions will be taken,” stated an official of Darmasign Battalion.
The military council’s Myanma Economic Holding Limited Company and China’s Wang Pao Company engaged in joint venture Letpataung Copper Mining Project since 2013 despite residents’ repeated objections. Due to the project, environmental damage has been caused, and the (Lalti) Buddhist temple has been destroyed.
Since the junta regime is trying to re-start the operation of the project, the resistance forces issued statements to prevent locals from getting involved in the project.
