MYANMAR – The National Unity Government’s Anti-Terrorism Center announced last Tuesday (February 27) that the Central Committee for Militia Service Summons and all subordinate groups established by the military council have been declared as terrorist groups.
The terrorist military group, which has absolutely no authority to enforce any law or legislation forcibly approved the (Militia) Conscription Law, formed the Central Committee for Service Summons, and arbitrarily detained the people. The NUG Anti-Terrorism Center made this announcement regarding the forced arrests and conscription.
Due to the actions of the military council, the public is worried and panicked. Youths left schools and workplaces and fled to border areas to avoid participating in the terrorist activities of the military council, losing job opportunities, and there have been a rise of human trafficking in the border region, the rise of cross-border crime, and threats to the security of the neighboring countries as a result.
Forcibly arresting the people by the Central Militia Recruiting Group established by the military council; forcing them to work as laborers and porters and attend forced military training and recruitment by the junta council have been designated as terrorist activities. It has been verified that all the recruitment groups of the terrorist military group violate the Anti-Terrorism Law.
The NUG’s Anti-Terrorism Central Unit issued an order on February 24, that helping the junta regime in forcibly arresting and calling up people for military service, providing military training is a terrorist act and warned not to engage with the junta regime. Those not following the order would be punished accordingly, as announced by the NUG.
Acting President of the NUG, Mr. Duwa Lashi La also stated that one’s best must be given to counter-act the military council’s conscription law and a special need to stop it as it is trampling the lives and future of young people, during the cabinet meeting on February 20.
