KARENNI STATE- The founder of the Karenni Human Rights Group, Mr. Banyar said that due to the blockade of the military council troops in Hpruso, food supplies could not be transported and people are facing food shortages.
“Road closures are not only at the battle zones. Junta troops deliberately close down the roads and make more arrests. So, food supplies could no longer be carried easily. Due to the military blockage and supply chain difficulties, commodity prices have skyrocketed,” said the founder of the Karenni Human Rights Group.
“Currently, fights are going on in Hpruso and Demoso townships, and it is difficult to travel through the area. On the other hand, due to the rise in commodity prices, the displaced persons are facing more struggles,” he added.
“Due to the junta’s blockage, the supply chain is insufficient and the commodity prices are rising on the other hand. We can’t predict the day-to-day market price which has been skyrocketing. We have more problems such as insufficient balance to buy (and possible shortage in the future),” Mr. Banya said.
This food shortage and skyrocketing commodity prices are happening in other townships of Karenni State in addition to Hpruso, Demoso townships, stated Mr. Banyar.
