KACHIN STATE – The nine junta ships that delivered rations from Mandalay to Bhamo have departed Bhamo for Mandalay on August 25 morning, according to locals.
The ships sailed downstream at around 5 a.m. on August 25 while simultaneously shelling the villages around Bhamo.
“We haven’t received casualty reports yet. They have torched and shelled the villages near Bhamo since their arrival so the residents still had not returned. Many houses were damaged,” said a local defence force member.
News of the ships sailing down has reportedly sent the locals living on the river bank in Shwegu Township fleeing to safety.
The junta ships arrived at Bhamo on August 17 and junta terrorists fired heavy artillery at Kaungton Village, Myalel Village and Zinpon Village and set fire to the houses on that date.
The nine junta ships transporting rations including warships had sailed upstream from Mandalay to Bhamo on July 26 morning.
Along the way, the ships shelled and opened fire into the surrounding and the junta infantry that marched alongside on land also terrorized and murdered the civilians. As a result, six civilians including a child were killed and over 50 people were abducted on Katha and Tigyaing Townships.
