MYANMAR- The former policemen who had defected from the junta regime and joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) call for those (police and soldiers) who are still serving under the Military Council, to stand together with the people and join the CDM.
The voices of those who carried out CDM with weapons from the military council police stations in Bawlakhe town can be heard in the video footage released by KNDF.
The policewoman who joined CDM from Bawlakhe police station, Ms. Wyut Mhone Phu said, “It’s all our choices, we just need to make the right choice. I will never regret the choice I made. If anyone want to defect from military, just come out. I want to apologize to the public for coming out late. I wanted to leave for a long time but couldn’t do so as my child was very young. That’s what I want to say.”
In the past three months, 7 policemen joined CDM and defected to the KNDF with their weapons (from the city police station and the district police station in Bawlakae Township). KNDF stated that the soldiers were allowed to move and live freely and were also given benefits and rewards.
As the war in Karenni intensified, the KNDF once again called for the soldiers serving under the military council to come and join the revolutionary forces. The KNDF also said that those who joined CDM would be guaranteed their safety and treated with dignity.
“I don’t want to live under a military dictatorship. I am a Kayah ethnic, and I have wanted to participate in the ethnic side for a long time. Because of the unavoidable situations, I lived in an army camp with my family. Now I finally decided that I should not stay there anymore and left. I decided to come out and defected for my future generation and my ethnic groups. I have always wanted to leave the dictatorship system and finally got a chance to do so. What the junta told us about the ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) is misinformation and the opposite. Everything is fine here. The EAOs welcomed us and treated us nicely when we defected from the military and joined them,” CDM police officer Nye Yel said in the video file released by KNDF.
CDM department under the Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF), forms the Karenni People’s Embrace Programme and accepts the police under the military council who joined CDM.
