MYANMAR – The Myanmar Airways International – MAI, a partner of the terrorist junta council, has collected the money by increasing the fee to 3,720 kyats per US dollar for the second time, according to flight ticket sales agents.
Since August 12, although MAI has not changed the charge of 2,920 kyats per US dollar, it has increased the service fee by 400 kyats per US dollar for the first time. Therefore, according to the exchange rate, 2,920 kyats per US dollar and 400 kyats service fee were collected at a total of 3,320 kyats per US dollar.
On August 19, for the second time, even though MAI did not change the charge of 2,920 kyats per US dollar, but increased the service fee by 800 kyats per US dollar. As a result, the exchange rate is 2,920 kyats per US dollar and the service fee is 800 kyats, a total of 3,720 kyats per US dollar was collected.
“MAI increased the US dollar exchange price for the second time on August 18. A service fee of 800 kyats was added to one dollar. So, one US dollar was charged 3,720 kyats including service fees,” said a representative of a ticket agent.
At present, the exchange rate per US dollar is 3,950 kyats in the foreign currency market, the junta-controlled Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) has set a reference price of 2,100 kyats per dollar. But, the CBM has allowed 2,920 kyats per US dollar in the market transaction.
MAI Airlines was previously owned by Mr. Aung Ko Win, the owner of Kanbawza Bank, but since 2018, the owner of 24 Hours Company, Mr. Aung Aung Zaw, has bought the majority of the shares and assumed it as the new owner.
