SHAN STATE – Following the surrender of over 700 junta forces, Wa State government has officially received Hopang and Panglong and has started the administration procedures, announced the United Wa State Army (UWSA).
The official ceremony to transfer the two regions was held at Hopang Town Centre on Wednesday (January 10) and the Maimaw District Chief and department officials represented the central Wa State government at the ceremony.
The Three Brotherhood Alliance attacked and captured Hopang and Panglong Towns on January 5 and transferred them to UWSA while the over 700 junta troops that surrendered were sent to Lashio.
It is said that Hopang and Panglong Towns belong to Wa people but were not transferred to UWSA during the region transfer in 1990 under military dictator General Saw Maung. The two towns have been returned to UWSA 34 years later.
