KARENNI STATE- According to the spokesperson of the Karenni Revolution Union (KRU), a member was reportedly killed in a landmine blast in the frontline area in eastern Demoso Township.
The KRU member was severely injured by the blast on May 10 and passed away at 6 a.m. on May 11 while receiving treatment.
“Junta has been leaving behind the unexploded ordnance without clearing the area before they left. I want my comrades on the frontline to be alert and careful about these abandoned mines. Some comrades had already lost body parts or lives due to the unexploded ordnance. Our KRU member was also killed in a blast,” said the spokesperson.
The deceased, Mr. Alfred (aka Nobel), is an eighteen-year-old vice platoon commander who has been with KRU for more than a year since its founding. Four other KRU members also received blast-related injuries in the same incident and have reportedly been getting treatment.
The junta council has been using abandoned landmines in Karenni State since it declared martial law. Our members have frequent blast-related injuries while clearing those mines in the area almost daily, stated the KRU spokesperson.
“We have to demine the area where we are doing missions. Since we are clearing mines daily, more accidents and injuries have occurred recently. Our medical team is now well-formed as the injuries are more prevalent. The four essential things; arms, ammunition, rations, and medications must be sufficiently prepared as the battles intensify,” said the KRU spokesman.
The Karenni Revolution Union (KRU) comprises seven units: Commando Force, Karenni Democratic Front (KDF), Fight For Justice (JPDF), GZ-21 (PDF Loikaw), Southern Shan Local Revolution Union (SSLRU), Federal Democracy Brotherhood Force (FDBF), and Medic Unit- Demoso and have been exercising missions and dominating the territory along Konethar Village, Demoso Township.
