KAREN STATE- An official of Karen National Union (KNU) stated that more than 700 residents were fleeing as the junta column opened fire and entered Phothaungsu Village in Mone Township, under KNU Brigade 3 territory, on September 7 around 6:00 a.m.
A battle broke out as the junta troops entered the villages near its Thitcha Seik camp (which was seized in destroyed previously) for area clearance.
After the battle, the column deployed overnight at Myatye Burma village and entered Myatye Karen village the next morning (September 7). So, another fight broke out between Junta forces and PDF-KNLA Battalion 8 joint forces.
During the battle, due to heavy weapons fired by junta troops, more than 700 residents from 100 households of Phothaungsu village fled the war.
The commander of KNU Brigade-3 said, “Yesterday (September 6), there was a battle with the incoming column in Myatye Burma and enemy stationed there. This morning, there was another battle at Myatye Karen section. Phothaungsu is not far from Myatye villages, only half an hour (on foot). That’s why the locals are frightened and run away.”
Starting on September 3 and until September 6, the defeated military council army opened heavy weapons as well as aerial bombardment, destroying Ngahtwe Sote, Myatye, and Myanyansein villages, killing two civilians including a child, and injuring ten people, according to an official of Brigade 3.
