SAGAING DIVISION – The junta air force bombed around the monastery and school in Manawtha Village, Homalin Township, killing a child and injuring nine.
An A5 jet fighter that took off from Tada U Air Base is said to have carried out the bombing at around 4 p.m. on April 1.
“There was a battle near that village (Manawtha Village). Junta forces didn’t let the villagers leave the village and took the villagers as shields when retreating. The families caught in the bombing were hiding inside the school. Just as they were being rescued by (the revolutionary forces) on our side, the junta plane bombed,” said a source close to the on ground sources.
Ms. May Thet Zun (3) was killed in the bombing while five months old Ms. Thet Htoo Mon, Ms. Hla Yamin (5), Mr. Lin Latt Kyal (5), Mr. Shine Myat (9), Mr. Hla Phone Myint (10), Mr. Soe Thu Aung (11), Ms. Saung Hnin Wai (13), Mr. Wai Phyo (16) and Mr. Thar Cho (65) were injured by shrapnel.
The junta council and revolutionary forces have been battling around the villages such as Kyunkone, Ingyinmaw and Manawtha at the border of Homalin and Hpaungpyin for around four days and the aerial attacks of the junta council have resulted in civilian casualties and damaged buildings.
“There is battle in that place. We can hear jet fighters bombing (the area), even at places and villages where there are no battles. The number of bombings is also pretty high. Two or three aircrafts would come and bomb two or three times every day,” said a resident of Hpaungpyin.
Also on April 2 morning, a Mi 2 helicopter that took off from Homalin bombed and attacked Kyunkone Village three times, at 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. respectively but it cannot be confirmed yet if there were any casualties.
