BAGO DIVISION – The Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners (AAPP) announced today that 37 political prisoners who were taken away by the Junta to transfer from Daik-U prison were missing.
The political prisoners were taken out on June 27th, AAPP said.
It was also eported that when the families of the missing political prisoners went to Kyeik Za Kaw Prison for enquiry, the prison officials repeatedly denied it.
Two young political prisoners were killed in a shootout while they were trying to escape in transferring. The news was informed to the families by the authorities of Kyeik Za Kaw Prison on July 7th and 8th.
Although the letters were dated June 29, they reached the families more than a week later, AAPP pointed out.
In the letter, it is stated that they were transferred from Daik-U Prison to Insein Prison, and that they were shot and killed after running away when the car overturned on the road.
AAPP said in a statement that transferring to other prison was only an excuse.
AAPP said that according to the events of the past few months, there have been reports of people being taken out of prison and being interrogated and killed.
On July 2nd, the family was informed that U Sein Win, a political prisoner of Myingyan Prison, died of suffocation in the prison, but in fact, he was taken out of the prison for questioning. “Marks of black and brown injuries were found on his body, ” AAPP was reported from his family.
