RAKHINE – The junta council fired heavy artillery shells at Korea Harbor, Myoma Market in Sittwe Town on Thursday (February 29), killing at least seven civilians, sources report.
The casualty count may rise to at least ten, including deaths at the hospital. “The casualties might be massive. Seven were killed on the spot, and at least ten more were killed, including those who died at the hospital. Many civilians were also wounded in the junta artillery attack,” said a resident of Sittwe.
According to residents, over ten people were killed and nearly 30 were wounded due to the junta’s artillery barrage.
The junta council launched heavy artillery shells at Sittwe Market around 8 a.m., during peak hours. Shops and civilian structures were destroyed by the junta forces’ bombardment.
“In the morning, seven were killed, but the toll rose to over 10. At least 30 were also wounded as it was crowded at the market. The shells came from the rice and pottery sectors, and civilians’ homes were also destroyed, with mirrors shattered. Many were wounded, and the situation is dire,” said an eyewitness from Sittwe.
