TANINTHARYI DIVISION – According to the residents, a man from Banlamut Village fleeing the war was arrested by the military council when he returned home at around 2:30 p.m. last Thursday (June 20).
“He was arrested when he briefly returned to the village. No one is in the village and the junta army has returned and stationed at the village,” said a local woman from a nearby village.
Locals of Banlamut Village have been fleeing the war between junta and resistance forces and deserted the village since March.
It is reported that the detained villager of Banlamut is over 20 years old and works as a gardener.
He was reportedly taken to the Military Council Artillery Battalion 306 based in Mawton Village in the afternoon.
In the past, the junta Artillery Batallion arbitrarily arrested the locals of Banlamut Village and asked for money to release them.
The military council soldiers withdrew from Banlamut Village (where they were previously stationed) a few days ago due to fights along the Tanintharyi-Mautaung Road and reportedly returned in two cars on Wednesday night.
From the 15th until the 20th of June, for five consecutive days, there have been clashes along the Tanintharyi-Mautaung road section.
