NAY PYI TAW – A military source in Nay Pyi Taw said that the system of returning retired veterans to duty in the army for at least 1 year in the original post, has been started.
In January 2024, an order was issued by the terrorist junta council to allow reservists (veterans) to serve in the military.
According to the directives in the order, veterans must register and sign as reservists. Those who have been registered as reserve forces are to be re-scrutinized by the military council and will be allowed to join the service with his gazetted officer ID number or other ranks ID number and the rank.
The reservists (veterans) must serve at least one year full-time if he is re-scrutinized by the military council. They will be allowed to receive the retirement salary as well as service salary according to the level of service in terms of salary and allowances. They will also be allowed to receive the hard labor expenses and life sacrificial expenses.
After one year of military service, a veteran reservist will be given a lump sum of 500,000 Kyats. Currently, according to this directive, the junta council has recalled around 2,000 veterans, given them military training, and sent them to the front lines.
“They must be veterans. They have to be registered as a reserve force. Age and health conditions need to be in good condition. That means, if there is no major illness and he is still healthy, he will be called back to the army. The main salary will be retired salary and the salary of service level. If he completes one year in service, he will be awarded a lump sum of 500,000. If the family does not have a place to stay, they will be provided living quarters and welfare,” explained a military source in Nay Pyi Taw.
CDM Captain Zin Yaw said that the persons ousted because of hepatitis B and C and dismissed ex-servicemen are being called back and reported that retired Captain Aung Chit Min was assigned to the 26th Infantry Regiment (Taungoo) as the Company Commander (Captain) and Retired Captain Bone Myint Aung has been reassigned to the No. 19 Infantry Battalion (Swar) as a company commander (Captain), along with the photo of the order on social media.
