MYANMAR – Padoh Saw Kler Say, the spokesperson for the Karen National Union (KNU) that the KNU will strongly prevent the junta council forcefully abducting people in the KNU territory for military service.
KNU has objected the conscription law of the junta council and has officially announced on February 19 that enforcing the conscription law is an act of pushing the country deeper into war.
Padoh Saw Kler Say commented that the junta council enforcing the conscription law is their second major mistake.
“This major mistake is after 2020, this could be called the second major mistake,” said Padoh Saw Kler Say.
He believes that the conscription law would serve to increase the troops of KNU and revolutionary forces.
Meanwhile, Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG) states that after the junta chief enforced the conscription law, steps to collect data have been initiated in the cities including in Karen State and that there have also been abduction cases.
The Campaign Officer of KHRG, Saw Nada Sue said that there could be forced conscriptions as young people are against the conscription law.
KHRG said that safety could worsen even more in the country due to that law.
