KARENNI STATE – The ICJM, a Catholic religious organization, has constructed a new school in a war refugee camp located in the western part of Demoso township, Karenni State. The purpose of this initiative is to provide a safe learning environment for children affected by the ongoing conflict.
Due to the prolonged wartime period, the original school building was in disrepair and unsuitable for use. Thus, the decision was made to construct a new school building. The inauguration of the new school building took place on August 2nd.
“We have built and donated this school to strengthen the education of these children. Our goal is to ensure their safety and provide them with a secure environment. The new building will offer suitable classrooms for the children to learn, regardless of weather conditions, be it sunshine or rain,” said the individual responsible for overseeing the construction of the school.
Approximately 100 individuals, including students and parents, attended the opening ceremony of the new school building. The school currently offers education up to the 5th grade, and around 50 students are enrolled. To support the students’ learning, there are a total of 10 teachers serving in the school.
