KAREN STATE – After two years of the coup, a junta corporal committed suicide because he couldn’t go back to the base and couldn’t meet his family members.
One corporal, who is 53 years old, committed suicide by shooting himself on the evening of May 16. He was also Rakhine and left behind his wife and two children.
“He committed suicide at the junta’s farm to the west of Thingan Nyinaung Strategist Hill. He was cremated at Thingan Nyinaung Crematory when his family arrived on May 19. His responsibilities were to deliver milk. He was calm but couldn’t handle the pressure from his officer and couldn’t pass on the tasks to his juniors,” said a source.
“He also patrolled at night and frequently mentioned that he wasn’t happy without the warmth of his family. Last week, he argued with his officer, attempted to shoot him, and caused problems. The junta covered up the news to prevent it from spreading,” said a junta source.
Due to the lack of manpower in the junta forces, the officers and troops couldn’t go outside even for family reasons. The junta restricted their movement due to the large number of soldiers joining the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM).
