MYANMAR – The Embassies of the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia and Netherlands issued statements on Friday (March 8), the International Women’s Day, acknowledging the bravery of the Myanmar women who are fighting back against the military coup in Myanmar.
The statements acknowledged the bravery of Myanmar women taking up important roles in the fight against the February 1, 2021 military coup and mentioned that those women are leading the efforts to build an all inclusive democracy in Myanmar while simultaneously supporting and taking care of their families.
The statements by the embassies mentioned that the women of Myanmar are displaying the importance of working for an inclusive, peaceful, future democracy through daily activities and added that women and young girls are the most vulnerable terrorism and that it is the duty of everyone to put a stop to all sexual assaults and gender based crimes including conflict related sexual assaults.
The embassies stressed the need to improve help for the survivors of such assaults at the same time, the importance of women’s involvement in building long lasting peace and security in political and peace processes, that all the women and young girls with various backgrounds and abilities should be involved in the main sector when imaging the future of Myanmar and that the vows to improve gender equality and to increase the abilities of women and young girls remain strong.
