KACHIN STATE – After overrunning military coup council outpost and Shanni Army (SNA) outpost, Kachin Independence Army (KIA) started attacking the junta police station in the middle of Se Zin Village, Hpakant Township, Kachin State.
According to locals, junta is giving aerial support and that’s the reason the embattled and encircled police station has not fallen yet.
On Tuesday (August 9), at around 1 p.m., KIA started attacking the police station and a regime helicopter and a fighter jet came and attack KIA troops 30 minutes later. 30-year old male local recounted the events.
He added that, “Before KIA started their attack towards police station, a junta gunship came and shot around the village at noon.”
He thought junta forces did preemptive attack on places where KIA forces might be hiding. Most locals living near the police station have reportedly taken shelter in the monastery nearby.
The police station is located in the eastern part of the village near the road connecting to Hopin Town. 40-year old female local was worried for the villagers taking shelter at the monastery since it is also located in the area surrounding the police station.
The battle is still ongoing as of 3 p.m. on August 9 and she believed the station has not fallen yet because of the air support.
Both KIA and military coup council cannot be reached for comments regarding the battle.
KIA also encircled and attacked the military column making offensive operations into Se Zin Village back in July 16. There were fierce fightings between July 16 and July 19 and the junta forces performed aerial bombardment many times to extract their trapped forces.
