MYANMAR – It was reported that the National Unity Government (NUG)’s Acting President Duwa Lashi La and Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann attended and delivered a speech on the 47th anniversary of Salai Tin Maung Oo’s commemoration day (June 26).
“Salai Tin Maung Oo may have fallen, but his beliefs and stance have not died. Although he was still young, he has clearly shown his intention and action so that the entire nation could try and free themselves from dictators. I urge everyone to remember and respect the clear will and stand of Salai Tin Maung Oo,” said the acting President.
On June 26, 1976, student leader Salai Tin Maung Oo was brutally sentenced to death (hanged) by military dictators because of his resistance against the military dictatorship.
Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann said, “The fear given by the military dictator indeed is scary for ordinary people. However, if we do not overcome these fears, we will lose justice and freedom from generation to generation, which is even more terrifying. Without justice and freedom, there can never be true security, peace, and rights. Therefore, we must resist and overcome the fear created by the military dictators through the collective strength.”
The 47th Salai Tin Maung Oo Commemoration Day was attended by the acting President, Union Ministers including the Prime Minister, Deputy Ministers and Consultative Council members of the NUG, Officials of the Interim Chin National Consultative Council, Chin ethnic leaders, leaders from various student organizations and invited honorable guests.
