SAGAING DIVISION – An official of Anyar Pyit Taing Htaung Lay Myar Group stated that due to the heavy artillery firing from the junta council onto two villages in Salingyi Township, Sagaing Division, one monk suffered injuries, and monastery and houses were destroyed.
On Sunday (August 27) at around 8:40 a.m., the junta’s two military vessels carrying timbers and ascending along the Chindwin River released heavy artillery towards the villages at the bank of the river.
The shells released by the junta troop reportedly landed on Thayet Kaing and Nhaw Ku To villages and houses and monastery were destroyed and one monk got injuries.
“The monk hit by the artillery shell is said to suffer minor injuries. But he’ll need to have surgery to take out shell’s shrapnel,” an official of Anyar Pyit Taing Htuang Lay Myar Group said.
Furthermore, since the junta’s military columns could not use the infantry anymore, they have been using the waterway to transport their rations and continuously carrying out indiscriminate artillery firings toward the villages alongside the river bank.
