SOUTHERN SHAN STATE- Among those Hsihseng IDPs returning home, a mother and son were injured in a grenade explosion on the evening of May 5 and were receiving medical treatment, according to war refugees in Hsihseng Town.
It was reported that Mrs. Nan Rua, the owner of a tea shop in Mya Kantha Ward, Hsihseng Town was injured in an explosion while removing a hand grenade in the drain in front of her shop with a stick.
Mrs. Nang Rua, who used a stick to pick up the grenade, had lacerations on her ear, and her son received injuries on the back and thigh. They were taken to Taunggyi’s Sao San Htun Hospital for treatment.
Only about 2% of the people who returned to Hsihseng from the refugee camps and there were reported injuries due to the remnants of military weapons. On May 1, there had been a bomb blast near Meethway Hill, and a causality was reported.
As the returnees hear the sound of gunfire every day, they are still worried. The Hsihseng market, which was destroyed by fire, will be rebuilt with a 2-story building with a parking lot by the junta affiliates. Currently, the whole marketplace land was sold for only 7 million kyats (on auction) and they are clearing up the place using machineries, according to residents.
At present, it is reported that more than 1,000 people are still fleeing towards Saik Khaung Town due to the fights that took place in the southern Hsihseng Town on the Tabak Riverside, Naunhyindon, and Naungbo villages.
In the battle situation report released by the Pa’O Youth Association (PYO) on April 29, there were 83 civilian casualties, among which 13 people were injured due to the shooting and explosions of remnants of war.
