SHAN STATE – The Pa’O National Liberation Army (PNLA) announced that the junta council forces and subordinate Pa’O National Organisation (PNO) militia destroyed the Buddhist monastery in Htitamaung Village, Hsihseng Township, southern Shan State.
PNLA stated that the junta troops and associates fired heavy weapons at Htitamaung monastery that is located seven miles from Hsihseng Town on February 7 around 8 a.m. and the common hall and the religious hall in the monastery premises were destroyed. PNLA pointed out that it was neither a battle zone nor a base of the PNLA.
In addition on February 7, the junta forces reportedly fired heavy weapons at a village in eastern Hsihseng Township and the shells exploded near the village monastery. PNLA stated that it is clear that the junta council is intentionally destroying the religious buildings worshipped by the Pa’O people and that the actions of the junta forces and their associates have made it clear that they have no respect for religion and only worship the military dictator.
