KACHIN STATE – The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) still has control of Sumprabum and is continuing the offensive on junta strategic base, informed the military source.
After KIA captured several junta council camps in Sumprabum during the second week of March, the junta forces from the police station, led by the station chief, surrendered to KIA. Then KIA launched an offensive on the remaining junta camp in the township starting March 14.
“The offensive against the junta council camp is still ongoing. The town is under our control,” said the KIA military source on March 17 morning in response to the news that KIA had captured the junta camp in Sumprabum.
Another military source also said that the situation in the battle at Sumprabum is still intense.
The KIA information department was also informed on March 16 evening that they were still attacking the junta council’s Sumprabum camp and that the junta council was defending with air strikes.
There are three wards in Sumprabum Town, which, according to the 2014 census, is home to a population of over 2,500. The entire Sumprabum Township has a population of over 9,700. It is surrounded by Injangyang Township in the east, Tanai Township in the west, Myitkyina Township in the south and Putao, Machanbaw, and Khaunglanhpu Townships in the north.
KIA started the operation to capture the junta camps around Laiza on March 7 and is also clashing against the junta troops in other Brigade territories.
It is said that the ethnic armed organization has captured all regional junta camps, including the junta camps at Khayar Mountain and Bumyal Mountain, that can pose a threat to Laiza within ten days and has also captured several junta battalions and camps in other regions.
