BAGO DIVISION – Volunteers helping the residents of Zayatgyi in Htantapin Township said that the junta council blocked efforts to rescue and bring out the residents out of the conflict zone and turned them back at Htantapin Bridge and Dotaung Bridge.
It is said that even though the social volunteer groups were able to bring out the residents of Zayatgyi fleeing the battles on February 9, the junta council blocked them from crossing Htantapin Bridge and Dotaung Bridge and wouldn’t let the war refugees enter Taungoo.
“The junta dogs (soldiers) ordered us to return the people fleeing the war at Htantapin Bridge. We managed to bring them out of the conflict zone but had to leave them there at Htantapin Bridge. Dotaung Bridge was blocked as well. The junta dogs are being nefarious,” said a volunteer.
In addition, it is said that Mi35 helicopters of the terrorist junta council were also hovering in the area after taking off from Taungoo Air Base.
“The junta dogs are mainly using civilians as cover, as our side (revolutionary forces) won’t attack when civilians are present,” said a volunteer helping the people fleeing the war.
According to residents, many people were stuck at Htantapin Bridge as the junta council only allowed cars without passengers to cross the bridge and were also checking the mobile phones of everyone on board. In addition, the cars going towards Zayatgyi from Taungoo were also turned back.
