KARENNI STATE – The Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) has reported on August 5 that a total of 12 civilians have lost their lives by junta’s airstrike and artillery attacks, and killing of civilians in Karenni land in July, while 22 others were injured.
Airstrike attacks killed four civilians, including an 11-year-old boy, and injured eight people.
Similarly, artillery attacks killed a civilian and injured 14 others. The atrocious junta abducted and slaughtered the civilians at their bases and seven people were killed within a month.
The genocidal junta conducted 42 times of airstrikes, either during combat or in civilian areas within a month. The atrocious junta has been committing war crimes against its own people by doing such inhuman acts, according to the information officer of KNDF.
“They (the junta forces) intentionally attacked and launched aerial bombings and artillery attacks over the Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps and the villages, the civilian areas. They committed war crimes,” said the information officer of KNDF.
It was reported that 13 civilians’ houses, two religious buildings, a clinic and two school buildings were destroyed by juntas’ airstrikes and artillery attacks.
The KNDF reported that 33 civilians were killed during the month of June due to the junta’s gunfire and killing after abductions.
The Progressive Karenni People’s Force (PKPF) also reported on August 1 that there were 375 civilians who have died due to abductions, killings and attacks by the murderous junta soldiers in Karenni Land since the coup d’état.
Institute for Strategy and Policy- Myanmar (ISP Myanmar) also stated that civilian deaths have increased nationwide during five months of 2023, with Karenni State having the third highest number of deaths (159).
