KARENNI STATE – In Karenni State where the military junta council has tightened security and issued a curfew, locals said that shops in Loikaw Township are being broken into and stolen at midnight.
A resident said that shopkeepers are losing money because shops like grocery stores and stores are broken into and stolen at night.
“The shops east of Taung Market were broken into. I heard that the burglars loaded the stolen items onto a car. There is a curfew, so there is no one out at night,” he explained.
A person who runs a shop in Loikaw said that because the military junta council has issued a curfew and security has been tightened, it is possible that the burglars had negotiated with junta soldiers to break in and steal by car at night.
At present, not only are shops being broken into at night in Loikaw, there are also frequent shoplifting cases during the day.
