TANINTHAYI DIVISION – In November, there were many intense battles in Shan, Sagaing and Chin regions to capture towns and military camps, but in Tanintharyi, the incidence of fighting has decreased even more than in the previous months.
A total of nearly 50 fights and shootings occurred in Tanintharyi Division in September and October but for the last November, there were only 34 fights and shootings in total.
Comrade Arnold, who is in charge of the information of Myeik District Battalion (1), said that the southern region cannot fight like the northern region due to the problem of weapons and ammunition.
“Since we have been fighting in the south for more than two years, the munitions are decreasing. People’s defense groups in the quiet north have had time to prepare. Therefore, it is difficult to fight on an equal footing,” remarked by Comrade Arnold.
Last month, fighting and shooting occurred in all 10 townships in Tanintharyi. According to information released by public defense groups, 70 members of the junta council were killed and 30 wounded during the fighting. On the side of the People’s Defense Forces, 6 people were killed and 5 were injured during the clashes between the two sides.
More than half of the fighting that took place last month was attacking the military council camps and guard posts. The shootings were carried out by the revolutionary forces that attacked the police station and temporary deployment areas.
As a peculiarity, there were incidents where the Public Defense Forces raided and attacked the Kyauk Mae Daung area police station in Dawei Township for up to 7 hours, and they were not able to capture the station.
After the military coup, the month with the most fighting in Tanintharyi is July, 2023. There were at least 52 fights and shootings during that month. People’s Defense Forces also lost up to 11 soldiers.
The battle scenarios listed here are only a compilation of confirmed events, so there may be more on the ground.
