TANINTHARYI DIVISION- Locals reported that the detainees were reportedly cut and salt and chili powder were put in the wounds by junta troops from Weaponry Battalion- 306 based in Tanintharyi Township.
At the end of May, junta troops reportedly detained about seven locals, including a young man from a gas station in East Mawton village and a couple from the nearby tea shop. The detainees were released after 4 days and at least 3 of them were reportedly tortured.
“They split open the skin of hands and feet and put salts into the open wound. Three of my detained acquaintance suffered the same thing. I don’t know about the other detainees,” stated a close person of the detainees.
The junta troops reportedly asked for a large sum of ransom money to get the locals out although the exact amount of money paid is not known. The released persons showed signs of torture and currently receiving treatment.
Lately, at noon on June 7, seven men returning home to Nyaungpinkone Village were reportedly arrested by the junta troops nearby.
