KACHIN STATE – A Kachin Independence Army (KIA) source said that KIA led revolutionary forces completely captured the town of Lweje at the China-Myanmar border in Lweje Sub Township, Momauk Township.
KIA has besieged Lweje since March 29 but did not capture it until revolutionary forces entered Lweje on Tuesday morning (April 2), swept the area and captured the town.
“Lweje has been completely captured. The town is captured. KIA will reportedly lead the clearance operation in Lweje. There are plans to seal all junta offices. The terrorist junta forces guarding the town are also staying quiet as they are scared. There is also a hill camp of the junta council but there’s no issues. KIA has surrounded that camp as well and they can’t make any moves,” said a KIA source.
Junta soldiers and police have reportedly deserted Lweje while the junta staff are also said to be fleeing the town in various forms.
KIA and revolutionary forces launched offensives on the junta camps on the Bhamo-Lweje Road starting March 27 and captured Seinlong Strategic Base, the last remaining base of the junta council, on April 1. There is no more junta camps along Bhamo-Lweje Road and enabling the capture of Lweje.
