KACHIN STATE – The residents of Kachin State want to postpone the opening ceremony of the Manaw Pole which has been completed in Hnit Mai Aungtha Ward of Bhamo, Kachin State, to be held from November 23rd to 25th.
Residents said that they wanted to postpone the date of the event as it was a time of ongoing fighting and unrest in the area.
It is reported that the Manaw Pole, which has been built since 2019 at Hnit Mai Aung Thar in Bhamo, has been completed and is being prepared for the opening ceremony.
“We, the people, think that it is not appropriate because there are also battles going on right now. Because of that, the residents want to postpone the ceremony. They want to do it only when the political situation is good. Now, it is heard that the military council is also putting effort into the ceremony,” said a local resident of Bhamo.
Since July this year, the junta council army and KIA, PDF joint forces are fighting almost every day, along the Myitkyina-Bhamo Road, and fighting is also happening frequently in Bhamo and Shwegu Townships.
More than a thousand villagers from Bhamo Township and Moe Mauk Township are also fleeing because of the fighting.
