MYANMAR – A large number of Myanmar youths have been queuing to submit application forms for the Korean language test that is a requirement to go work in South Korea and the number of applicants have surpassed 100,000, according to Korean language schools.
The application period for the Korean language test for this year has been set between March 19 and April 5 and the application forms have to be submitted at the labour department at Pinlon Hall in North Dagon Township. It is said that tens of thousands of young people have been queuing to submit the form every day.
“The junta council only allows the queue to start at 4 a.m. But we have to start queuing at 6 p.m. the day before to get into the queue at 4 a.m. the next day. Because we are afraid that we won’t get the form. There are at least 10,000 (people) every day. There’s a long queue and a huge crowd,” said a young man sitting for the exam.
An official from a Korean language school explained that the number of applicants last year was under 100,000 but rose this year due to the added factor of the conscription law.
“Both online and on ground applicants have reportedly went over 100,000. There are thousands and tens of thousands in queue just to make payment,” said the above official.
It is said that the people who passed the Korean language exam will be legally allowed to travel to Korea and work there.
In addition, junta council troops reportedly came to Pinlon Hall where the young people are queuing on March 23 morning to split the crowd and around 60 young people were said to have been taken away.
