SHAN STATE – The junta subordinate Pa’O National Army (PNA) is summoning villagers for military training every three days at Nangsinaungle Village in Taunggyi Township, Southern Shan State, according to residents.
It reportedly started since March 1 and it is said that every male villagers between 18 and 35 had to heed the summon.
“The village chief said that it was not his wish either to summon the men (for military training) but that he couldn’t defy the orders from PNA. He also asked them all to go as they won’t need to take part in battles. But there is no guarantee to that claim,” said a resident woman.
There is no determined number of attendants for each training but all male villagers within the range had to go take part in military training near Htansan Cave.
And the people who completed the training have also not been deployed anywhere yet and are currently assigned as village security only.
“Because it’s only three days, people go (attend the training). The training is also only on basics. The rest is just speeches. It is said that other villages will also be summoned in turns,” said a person who took part in the training.
PNA collected 30,000 Kyats per household in Nangsinaungle Village Tract last year for military expenses but reduced it to 10,000 Kyats in the last seven months after the village chief negotiated.
