BAGO DIVISION – Fire broke out at the staff housings in the campus of Taungoo University, near Nyaungkine Village, Taungoo Township at about 10 a.m. on April 1, according to locals.
The fire started from a wire shock inside the employee quarters of Taungoo University, and the fire spread through the staff housings.
“The staff housing is made up of wood. It was just for temporary residence. Everything burned down in around 30 minutes. The assistance groups also did not find out about the fire in time,” said a resident.
The fire destroyed all eight housings in the employee quarters and the household items of the staff including bicycles and five motorbikes were also destroyed.
Local volunteer groups and the fire department came but failed to put out the fire and the entire staff housing was burnt.
Currently, about 30 of people suffered by the fire have moved to other staff housings inside Taungoo University.
