MYANMAR – The local people said that in Taungdwingyi township of Magway Division and Amarapura township of Mandalay Division, the village administrators cooperated with the junta army and officially opened gambling clubs.
U Khin Maung Lat, the village administrator from Oh Pauk village tract, Taungdwingyi township in Southern Magway, collected 10,000 Kyats per household which own a cart and cows among the villagers and five thousand Kyats are being collected from daily wages labourers every month without giving any reason. In addition, teak and other trees were illegally cut down and many sawmills were built, working with the junta council’s subordinates. In the village, gambling clubs are also being opened on a large scale.
“Village head Khin Maung Lat does everything illegal in the Oh Pauk village. He collects monthly donations from the people without any reason and does illegal logging. There are gambling circles in the village. To do this, he pays the junta council’s army every month. Since everyone is afraid of him, the villagers can’t do anything but run away if they don’t want to stay,” explained a local resident.
Similarly, in Tamote Hsoe village, Amarapura township, Mandalay, the village administrators, bad members of Pyu Saw Htee are working together to make a gambling circles on a large scale. It is reported that the police and the junta council’s army ignored as they officially opened the service by paying the under table fees.
“The police and the junta council’s army are also taking their cuts, so they are silent. There are 4 rounds of cock fight and 1 round of dice throwing circle. The village is full of bad guys like Pyu Saw Htee, so they don’t dare to say anything,” explained the people of Tamote Hsoe village.
The junta council is creating rights for village administrators by allowing gambling circles to operate in villages. Mainly, if the village administrators help to recruit the soldiers who will serve in the junta council’s army, they are allowed to operate any illegal business without taking any action, according to the local people.
