MYANMAR – The Special Operations Force (S.O.F) issued a release, announcing that the fifth batch of the Special Operations Training by Southern Division Military Region of the People’s Defence Force (PDF), Ministry of Defence, National Unity Government, was successfully completed in the territory of Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 6.
The Special Operations Training Batch 5 was divided into one and a half month of basic military training, two months of special operations training as well as refresher training and included sniper rifles, medical knowledge, heavy artillery and drone courses. The training lasted four and a half month from May 15 to September 30, 2023.
The graduation ceremony of the Special Operations Training was held in military ceremony and the program included bowing to the PDF flag, taking oaths, drinking oath water, commencement speech by Comrade Saw Shar, the Deputy Military Region Commander 2 of Southern Division Military Region and graduation speech by S.O.F Commander Aung San Shar.
Trainers from Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), former U.S. marines, Myanmar technical trainers and S.O.F trainers were said to have conducted the training and specially selected trainees from the revolutionary forces in Mon State, Karen State and Tanintharyi Division attended the training.
They were reformed as Column 2 under S.O.F (9999/Special Force) and some of the graduates are now serving under their mother units.
It was also informed that S.O.F Column 2, formed with Batch 5 graduates, took part in Khleltakhun battle, Chaungnhakwa battle, Kyainseikgyi battle, Taungkyainn battle, battle in Kawkareik Township, Kyaukhtu camp seizing battle in Dawei Township and has achieved numerous victories.
