BAGO DIVISION – Two civilians were killed when junta soldiers recklessly fired heavy artillery shells at Zalote Gyi Village, Htantapin Township, on Wednesday (August 16) around 8 a.m.
The victims were Mr. Maung Htwe, 55, and Mr. Than Zaw, 33. “They were killed because of the junta artillery shells. The junta troops fired heavy artillery shells from Phyu Township to Zalote Gyi Village in Htantapin Township from the east bank of the Sittaung River daily,” said a resident.
These artillery shells destroyed two civilians’ houses in Zalote Gyi Village and wounded two civilians from Ngar Sii Hlaung Village.
“The junta troops from Infantry Battalion 73 in Htantapin destroyed civilians’ houses and wounded two civilians. The cause of death is the artillery shelling from Phyu Township to Htantapin Township,” said a resident.
Junta soldiers frequently fired heavy artillery shells at the villages from the east bank of the Sittaung River without engaging in battle.
