TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Ms. Nyo Mar Oo (aka) Ms. Nyo Mar, a member of the Dawei District Strike Committee was said to have been released from Dawei prison on the morning of June 22 as her sentence was due, as said by close friends.
Ms. Nyo Mar Oo, along with three other youths, were said to have been abducted by the members of the junta council in Kyaukmaw Ward, Dawei on May 29, 2021.
Then she was prosecuted under sections 505 (A) and 505 (C) and sentenced to 2 years and 6 months imprisonment by Dawei Prison court on December 1, 2021.
She, then, was known to have been prosecuted again under section 19 (f) and sentenced to one more year, bringing her total sentence to 3 years and 6 months.
“She was included in the list of political prisoners to be released in October, 2021 but was not released as there were charges against her,” said a close acquaintance of Ms. Nyo Mar Oo.
Ms. Nyo Mar Oo was kept in Dawei Prison for about 2 years and was released on June 22.
Mr. Thura Zaw, Mr. Soe Thet Zaw and Mr. Khant Nyi Nyi Thant, who were abducted with Ms. Nyo Mar Oo, have been released from the prison since about 7 months ago.
12 female prisoners of conscience from Dawei prison were also said to have been released on May 3.
Currently, there are about 60 female prisoners of conscience in Dawei Prison, as said by the sources close to the prison.
