TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Residents said that a member of Pyu Saw Htee from Hinda Village was killed after being detained by an unknown armed group.
The deceased is Mr. Thein Tan (50) who was a resident of No. 12 Ward, Hinda Village.
He was reportedly arrested by an unknown armed group at noon on August 12 and his dead body was found at the Hinda Village cemetery on August 14.
“At first, he was reported missing on his way to the farm. Only yesterday, we heard the news about him being arrested and killed. Finding his dead body today confirmed the news,” said a Hinda villager.
Mr.Thein Tan was an armed Pyu Saw Htee member and until about six months ago he was seen carrying a gun, according to the resident.
In addition to showing off his power in the village, he has been unruly and collecting illegal tolls from nickel miners, according to residents but these claims have not been confirmed independently.
It has not yet been verified or announced which organization killed him.
Starting December 2022, the military soldiers have been firmly stationed at Hinda Village and are also working together with Pyu Saw Htee members, stated the locals.
On the night of Mr. Thein Tan’s abduction, the junta council troops reportedly fired heavy and small arms.
On Tuesday morning (August 14), nearly 100 strong junta soldiers arrived in the lead mines outside Hinda Village, arrested four villagers as human shields, and launched offensives (in the area).
