THAILAND-The Thai Army 25th Infantry Regiment reportedly arrested Myanmar nationals who crossed the border illegally in Chumphon province, southern Thailand.
Thai authorities said that on November 4, four motorcycles were stopped for a check during their patrol but the bikers drove away.
The authorities chased and arrested the riders. A child, 3 women, and 3 men who entered illegally from Myanmar were arrested along with a motorcycle. But the other three motorcycles and riders had escaped.
According to the statement from the 25th Infantry Regiment, the arrestees were taken to the Chumphon province Police Station.
Chumphon province in Southern Thailand close border area adjacent to Botepyin and Kawthaung townships, Tanintharyi Division.
A person who travelled to Thailand illegally these days said that the uprising arrests are related to searches and patrols by the Thai government as well as the responsibility of the brokers who transport them.
“Many people sneak in. Thai army is watching along the entire border. If things don’t work at all, you can enter only after paying the (Thai) army.” said a Dawei resident who travelled through the illegal route.
The illegal border crossings into Thailand have skyrocketed since the military coup and the arrests occurring almost every month.
On November 3, twelve Myanmar nationals from the Thai-Myanmar Tak province were arrested in Pathum Thani province near Bangkok.
Similarly, at the end of October, the 25th Infantry Battalion of the Thai Army arrested 5 Myanmar nationals from Chumphon province and 7 from Ranong province who illegally crossed the borders, and sent them to the police station.
