NAY PYI TAW – It is reported that the Thai Foreign Minister tried twice to meet State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, who is imprisoned in Nay Pyi Taw Prison, but the State Counselor did not receive him.
It was learnt that Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai entered the Nay Pyi Taw Prison twice on July 9, but was not received by Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi and as a result, was only able to send her some documents.
“I was very surprised when news broke out that the Thai Foreign Minister told ASEAN that he had met with State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi. Ms. Suu Kyi did not receive the Thai Foreign Minister. On July 9, he tried twice to meet her, once in the morning and once in the afternoon, but Ms. Suu Kyi refused to meet him,” a source in Nay Pyi Taw said.
On July 12, international media reported that at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Indonesia, Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai revealed he had recently met with the imprisoned Nobel laureate.
On the night of July 8, an advisor of the head of the terrorist junta council arrived at Nay Pyi Taw Prison, and on the morning of July 9, the Thai Foreign Minister and his team arrived at Nay Pyi Taw Prison.
“Aung San Suu Kyi does not receive or discuss with anyone. The group including the Thai foreign minister arrived around 9:00 a.m. on July 9. It didn’t work out, and they returned around 11:30 a.m. They came back at one o’clock in the afternoon. They gave some documents and went back. I know that there was no face-to-face meeting,” said a source in Nay Pyi Taw.
On June 19 2023, in Pattaya, Thailand, an informal discussion on the Myanmar issue was held under the leadership of Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mr. Don Pramoon Winai.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the junta council attended along with foreign ministers, special envoys, embassadors and delegates from Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, Vietnam and neighboring countries such as the People’s Republic of China and India.
The military council’s top generals visited Ms. Suu Kyi in prison in June, but General Zaw Min Tun, the spokesman for the military council, denied it.
