SAGAING DIVISION – Locals stated that around 100 junta forces torched two villages with 200 housings each: Cheik Thin and Ywar Thit Kone villages in Tigyaing Township, Sagaing Division on Thursday (July 13) at around 7 p.m., resulting in 23 residential houses: 17 from Cheik Thin Village and 6 from Ywar Thit Kone Village, being burnt down.
“Those two villages are located side by side. Since the junta have much manpower, they deployed stationing as a group in each village. They slept over there even after burnt down the houses. They just left the villages on July 14 morning,” one of the local men from Tigyaing said.
Though the junta thugs committed the stated arsons were said to be attacked with landmines by the Local Defence Forces (LDFs) near Cheik Thin Village on Thursday July 13 at around 3 p.m., the casualties at the junta side could not be clarified at the time of reporting.
That junta column reportedly departed as infantry from Katha Township toward Tigyaing Township and marched into Kha Nwe Aing Village on July 14.
Similarly, during March and April, around 100 junta forces committed arson attacks on Nyaung Pin Thar Village in Tigyaing Region on March 31 and Mei Za Li and Yadanar Aung villages on April 2 respectively. Due to the junta’s arsons, 218 houses in Nyaung Pin Thar Village, 89 houses in Mei Za Li Village and 5 houses in Yadanar Aung Village were destroyed into ashes.
