SAGAING DIVISION – Kyaukmhaw Village in Tigyaing Township that had over 200 houses torched by terrorist junta forces was once again raided by junta forces on Wednesday (July 19) and several villagers have been unlawfully detained, according to locals.
It is said that the junta troops invaded the village around 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
“They (junta forces) invaded our village again claiming that there is presence of PDF activities in the village. The villagers who returned home were abducted. Women were released later but the men are still being detained,” said a resident of Kyaukmhaw Village who is currently taking shelter in another village.
Junta troops previously raided Kyaukmhaw Village in early March and set fire to the village, burning down 230 houses out of around 500 houses in the village.
The majority of the villagers have been displaced since then.
“It seems like they are planning to make a human shield (out of the detainees). Eight people have been abducted and are currently detained in the monastery,” a local shared their opinion on the next move of the junta regime troops.
The junta council has been launching invasives from Tigyaing Township into villages in the eastern bank of the Irrawaddy River such as Hlegu, Gyogone, Kywelthaekone and Tonepon (new) Villages. Fierce clashes have been reported near Kywelthaekone Village on July 14.
In addition, back in the second week of July, six junta soldiers had deserted the military along with their weapons and surrendered to the People’s Defence Force in Tigyaing Township.
