BAGO DIVISION- According to a person close to the family, U Kyaw Zeya, a member of the National League for Democracy (NLD) who was sentenced to 6 articles of imprisonment in Pyay Township, Western part of Bago Division, has been charged again with 2 articles by the local prison court.
He was sentenced to 19 years in prison for cases such as law on violence, election law, 2cases by 505 (a) 2, nicotinic law and law on prevention of natural disasters he has now filed two more charges under Section 49(a) of the Anti-Terrorism Act. “They said that 1 case was filed in Paungde and 1 case in Thegon. We know that they will appear in court on May 19th. Currently, it is difficult to hire a lawyer. There is no one to handle such cases. These cases can fine from 10 years to death penalty, so they are trying to find advocate.”
In these cases, the fine can range from ten years in prison to the death penalty.
He was arrested on June 9th last year and taken to Yangon. After 2 months of investigation without being allowed to meet with his family during the Rey Kyi Ain interrogation and the Pyay prison. On December 19, he was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
U Kyaw Zaya winned in both 2015 and 2020 elections for Division Hluttaw Representative from Pyay, Bago Division.
