KARENNI STATE – The displaced people at Chaungde IDP camp in western Demoso Township, Karenni State have to purchase drinking water and are facing problems due to that, reported the displaced people.
As there has been no drinking water donor for the camp, the people at the camp have to order a 2,000 gallon water truck from 65,000 Kyats but it is said that that amount of water only lasts for two weeks.
“There have been very few donors. We have to buy water and only use it for cooking and drinking. To wash clothes, we have to walk very far. The richer people at the camp mainly contribute to the water fund. Things are extremely difficult,” shared a displaced woman.
There is a population of over 130 at Chaungde IDP camp from 29 households and it is said that there are also 15 elders and children.
There are over 100,000 displaced people in western Demoso and as the period of being displaced increases, there are more and more requirements and difficulties with problems acquiring food and water, according to the displaced people.
