KARENNI STATE – A person in charge of the clinic said that there has been a shortage of medicine at the Mukayan Clinic, where medical care is provided to the displaced people and residents of the western part of Demoso Township, and this shortage needs to be replenished this month.
The number of patients has increased over these three months of the rainy season, and after over 1,200 patients were treated last month, there is a shortage of medicines, stated the in charge.
“Many medicines are out of stock and there is no more fund. We asked some patients to buy medicine at other clinics or pharmacies as we are on the shortage. This is how we have managed this month. But for some patients especially those fleeing the war, it’s not convenient and hard for them (couldn’t afford) to buy medicines,” said the clinic’s in-charge.
It is said that the average cost of medical treatment for a patient ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 kyats, and thus the expense of medicine is around 50 to 60 lakhs per month(for around 1000 patients).
During the rainy season, flu and cold are common. It is reported that 80% of those who come to the clinic are adults and middle-aged, and 20% are children.
Mukayan Clinic has been running for over two years, providing medical treatment to people fleeing the war, with assistance/funds from local and international donors.
